Volodymyr Zelensky's government has long been pressing defence suppliers to transfer more manufacturing to Ukraine, which has excess manufacturing capacity. Now, with defence officials hardening their position, some firms are actively scouting for bases in the country.

The recent offensive led by government forces in Syria took France by surprise and has resulted in dozens of French troops now finding themselves trapped in what remains of the Syrian Kurdish region of Rojava.
