In the spring of 2024, the now bankrupt app-building company commissioned private spies to probe whether it was the target of an influence operation. As part of their work, operatives targeted Financial Times reporters and attempted to infiltrate the FT newsroom.

While the large-scale defence communications programme remains delayed, Aramco Digital deployed a civil network in January. This will be used by the kingdom's security agencies pending delivery of the flagship defence project.

Huge piles of classified documents, most of them from the Cold War period, are taking up space in the offices of France's foreign intelligence service, pending a long-delayed transfer to the French armed forces' archives department.
